Fabrication of Operator Cabs for Two Bridge Cranes

When the Portland Branch of a national crane and railway services company needed a fabricator to manufacture two operator cabs, they turned to Vanport Marine & Industrial. They knew of Vanport’s reputation as a quality fabricator and its commitment to delivering projects safely, on tme, and on budget. The cabs are part of an extensive modernization of a pair of 250-ton bridge cranes in the Boundary Dam Powerhouse on the Pend Oreille River, operated by Seattle City Light. The new cabs were engineered to meet the project specification and applicable safety standards. The new cabs were designed to pro-vide enhanced visibility and comfort for the operator.

 

Working closely with the engineer, the prime contractor, and the end user, Vanport manufactured the two 3,300 lb. cabs within a tight timeline. Fabrication included the construction of the metal cab enclosures, installation of A/C units and J.R. Merritt chair systems for improved operator comfort, and application of a high-performance paint system.
